It's basically that animated toolbar that Macs have that launches your programs. I think it's pretty cool... kinda makes we want to have a Mac now...
Some people may hate the way Macs are used (and I use to be one of them) because they've become so accustomed to using Windows, but once you understand the whole concept of personalization and ease, you'll start to like Macs.
This is how my ObjectDock looks like. (you can customize and orientate it anyway you like...)
