With that in mind, I would like to point out a nice little article on cracked.com. It's a bit cynical, but it's a nice read.
It talks about how we are becoming less social and need to get out more. Here are a few of my favorite excerpts:
On instant messengers and email:
You can pick and choose which questions to answer. The person on the other end can't see your face, can't see you get nervous, can't detect when you're lying. You have almost total control and as a result that other person never sees past your armor, never sees you at your worst, never knows the embarrassing little things about yourself that you can't control. Gone are the common quirks, humiliations and vulnerabilitiesOn why we need to get outside:
It's the kind of physical, dirt-under-your-nails satisfaction that you can only get by turning off the computer, going outdoors and re-connecting with the real world. That feeling, that "I built that" or "I grew that" or "I fed that guy" or "I made these pants" feeling, can't be matched by anything the internet has to offer. So everyone get out and have fun with your friends. Don't spend that weekend molting in that chair of yours staring at the computer. Call up a friend or two and plan something. We need to interact to be happy. As someone once said in their senior quote:
make memories with you friends and live everyday like it may be your last. Carpe diem.
Go out, have fun, Carpe Diem.
